Asthma and Allergy Awareness
May 01, 2022May is Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month!! This couldn’t make us at Chicago Allergy & Asthma feel
more honored than to have an entire month dedicated to our practice specialty. A month where we get
to educate and inform our clients, friends, and followers all about what we do and how we help our
patients live happier and healthier lives.
According to The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America the following statics for the more than 65
million Americans that have asthma and allergies, some of which may have several of these conditions
simultaneously.
- About 25 million Americans have asthma (20 million adults and 5 million children)
- About 32 million Americans have food allergies (26 million adults and 6 million children)
- About 24 million Americans have rhinitis (hay fever), or nasal allergies (19.2 million adults and 5.2 million children)
May 3rd is also World Asthma Day. This day of asthma awareness is organized by the Global Initiative for
Asthma to bring attention to the worldwide gaps in asthma diagnosis, treatment, and continuing care
and management. This includes disparities in access to healthcare professionals, information, and
consistent access to affordable medication.
